Keeping the Doors Open for Sam
Ben Matatutia of Papatoetoe Adolescent Christian Trust (PACT) has been running a group for addicts and the homeless that usually sees about 35 people turning up twice a week for a meal and to listen to a devotion.
14 year old Sam comes from a family who are struggling to cope with his alcohol addictions and truancy issues. Ben has spent time attending Child, Youth & Family and courts meetings with the family and encouraging Sam to have psychological testing to understand his reactions.
Gradually, Ben and Sam’s family are beginning to see more consistency in Sam’s lifestyle and choices. Sam has aspirations to be a volunteer for PACT one day and the organisation hopes they can get him to a place where this is a reality.
PACT works with young people and their families using a holistic approach. They provide an avenue for practical Christian service by provision of monetary, practical, or spiritual assistance to the community, and in particular to at-risk youth and families.
