"The parents were exhausted, barely coping financially, with three children – the baby severely brain damaged, and the father needing extensive medical treatment for a severe leg injury from a car accident..."

“This family needed help and we were glad we could offer it” says the volunteer budget advisor of the Christian Assist Trust.  A co-ordinated approach meant that the family were assisted into a Housing New Zealand Home, supported by the local Catholic parish with food parcels, whilst waiting for increased WINZ subsidies to help with all the added expenses of caring for the baby and the father’s recovery.

The Catholic Caring Foundation provided funding for laptops for the Christian Assist team to take with them when visiting families.

Ken Ogden, Trust Manager, says “Prior to purchasing the laptops each Budget Co-ordinator was having to record client budgets manually, which was extremely labour intensive – often demanding that records be entirely rewritten as subtle changes evolved or debts remembered.  With the new laptops, records are now kept electronically, fast tracking everything for clients as they wait or when we visit in their own homes”

“We are extremely grateful to the Catholic Caring Foundation for their generous grant that enabled us to buy the laptops” says Ken
