Grants 2011
74% of Grants made go to Catholic Organisations

The Catholic Caring Foundation distributed a total of $628,724 in grants this year of which 74% ($466,600) was ear-marked for Catholic Organisations that look after the welfare of those marginalised in our communities.

A further $162,124 (26%) was distributed to other organisations that met the funding criteria for 2011. In total, 5% more was distributed this year compared to last year.

47% of grant applicants were successful, but as expected demand for available funds exceeded supply. Funds distributed to 39 organisations in 2011 were prioritised based on food, shelter (or housing), clothing and family support services. In addition, agencies that serve communities in areas that had restricted access to social services were also prioritised over others; either for socio-economic reasons or for geographical reasons such as rural communities.

We have heard from some of the agencies we fund that there are still many individuals and families out there struggling to survive in this post-recession era. We have also heard how childhood hunger is on the rise in New Zealand, with an estimated 40,000 school children fed by Charitable programmes such as Breakfast Clubs every week.

Due to the generous support of our donors and supporters, the Catholic Caring Foundation is able to fund community organisations that run breakfast clubs, food banks, step-up programmes for disadvantaged mothers and many, many more.

The 5 member grants committee of the Catholic Caring Foundation is a very experienced one with each person having on average 20 years experience in social services, which is crucial to the grants review process.
